Global Warming: The Other Side

Posted: Updated:

August 4, 2010

We know it has been a hot summer.  That's old news at this point.  However, with temperatures soaring into the 90s once again over the next two days, I thought this might be a good time to revisit our old friend global warming.  It has been a while since I have touched on this subject and with the new web site and new blog up and running, I wanted to bring the subject back to light.

My personal friends and family know all too well how I feel about the subject.  Quite frankly, I loathe the hype surrounding the issue and I hate how the media wastes so much valuable time covering it.  As a scientist, however, I do not completely discredit any hypothesis.  I simply want all the facts before I rush to a judgment.  While it is true that I have a difficult time accepting the man-made global warming theory, I am certainly open to any accurate information that would prove this charged political and media driven issue.

John Coleman is currently the head meteorologist for KUSI news in San Diego, California.  He has been a television weathercaster since he was a freshman in college in 1953 and has even served as Good Morning America's weatherman for seven years.  Coleman also cooked up the idea of a cable channel devoted to nothing but weather and spent six years developing "The Weather Channel" on cable. "That's my baby", he says. "The bad guys took it away from me, but they can't steal the fact that it was my idea and I started it and ran it for the first year. I put everything I had into making TWC the success it is."  John Coleman has been around for a long time and has forecasted a lot of weather.

It should come as no surprise then that this old veteran felt the need to weigh in on the hottest scientific topic of the past decade.  Coleman made a special about global warming for KUSI and I thought I would share it with you on my blog.  The special is extremely fair and examines the real science behind the issue.  Coleman makes no bones about it...global warming should not be a major world concern at this time.  The scientific evidence is falling apart.

I encourage you to watch with an open mind and send me your feedback at brettsblog@abc27.com.  I will post the special in parts and we begin today with the first segment.  Take from it what you will, but science is about information.  The more accurate information we have, the easier it is to determine whether or not a hypothesis is true.  Scientists should never stop asking questions, even if they are certain they are correct.  In the case of global warming, we need to keep the investigation alive before ruling one way or the other.  Enjoy Mr. Coleman's take on the subject below by clicking the link...
