Friday Morning Lights: East Pennsboro High School

EAST PENNSBORO TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) -- With only two days notice, East Pennsboro High School put on a show.

On Friday morning every fall sports team arrived at the high school gymnasium to share their panther pride.

During the hour-long pep rally, representatives from every fall sports team gave a recap of their season.

Ali Lanyon and Amanda Peterson also interviewed the honorary captain of the undefeated girls' soccer team. Her name is Ashlynn Brysiak and she's a third grader at West Creek Hill Elementary.

Ashlynn is currently battling leukemia. Her strength during her battle has inspired players like Jackie Bierbower, a junior soccer player.

Another soccer player, Joe Mansaray, spoke to Daybreak about his senior soccer season. It has been quite a difficult journey to get back on the field.

In June of 2015, Joe had trouble breathing. Doctors diagnosed him with a genetic heart problem called hypertrophic cardio myopathy, the same condition that took his mother's life last September.

As he dealt with her death, Joe waited for an organ donor. The call came and the surgery was scheduled for February. In July, he took the field again.

While Joe says his game isn't 100%, his team disagrees. His doctors say he is as good as new and he is looking to attend Temple University with his older brother next fall.

Finally, the football team joined the show. Ali and Amanda spoke to head coach Todd Stuter ahead of Friday's game against Steelton-Highspire.

The team is 3-1, outscoring the first three teams 116-44. Last week, East Pennsboro fell to Middletown. The final score was 50-14.

The captains of the team told ABC27 they channel the success of past panthers when they take the field. They look to former NFL star Mickey Shuler Sr. and his son, Mickey Jr., for inspiration and thank the past players for sharing their experience with the team.

ABC27 wants to thank East Pennsboro for putting together this show on such short notice. Next week, the Daybreak team will travel to Central Dauphin to highlight the big game against CD East.
