Update: State police investigate deadly pedestrian crash, contractor killed

5:30 a.m.:

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) State police are investigating a crash that killed a PennDOT contractor.

Investigators said the victim was a 41-year-old man from Hazelton. An autopsy will be performed Saturday.

State police are still trying to determine what kind of vehicle struck the victim while he was working.

Interstate 81 North re-opened around 1 a.m. Saturday.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - State police are investigating after a member of a crew painting lines on Interstate 81 was fatally struck Friday night in Franklin County.

According to PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler, a contractor was conducting line painting. A foreman was setting cones when a tractor-trailer struck him.

The unidentified worker was struck in the area of mile marker 19.5 in Greene Township.

The incident was first reported around 9:15 p.m., prompting a lengthy closure of I-81 northbound in the area.

No other details have been released at this time.
