A Dauphin County shooting victim was alive when police reached her on Wednesday morning. She later died. Police do not have anyone in custody.
At 6:55 Wednesday morning, the quiet Ridgeview neighborhood in Swatara Township became flooded with police.
My husband came to the front window and he saw the trucks out there," said neighbor Sandy Myers. "So, of course, I come running and I went out on the deck. And my deck faces down toward where the crime scene is. And saw some men going in with shields and guns."
The men with shields and guns were part of the Dauphin County Crisis Response Team. They were on and around Liberty Court. Police reported that a neighbor called 911 for gunshots at 517 Liberty Court.
"When our officers got on scene, they located one female victim that had been shot," said Deputy Chief Jason Umberger with Swatara Township Police.
The victim was 39-year-old Rezija Sabic. Officers found Sabic on her front porch. She was shot multiple times. An ambulance took Sabic to Penn State Hershey Medical Center where she later died.
Umberger said that two family members inside the house during the shooting ran to a neighbors house. The Crisis Response Team evacuated three to four nearby homes as a precaution. But as of late Wednesday afternoon, police did not have any suspects nor persons of interest. However, they believed the community was safe.
"There's no immediate danger to this neighborhood. It's a safe neighborhood," Umberger said. "We did have an incident here. We're going to investigate it. If we learn information that we believe would put neighbors or people in this neighborhood at risk, we will certainly put that out."
Police do recognize that a shooter is free right now. They ask neighbors and others to be alert - and call them about any suspicious activity.
