NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. (WHTM) - A New Cumberland man was charged with criminal homicide Wednesday in the shooting death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
According to court documents, police said 25-year-old Adam Trump shot and killed 21-year-old Trisha Marie Edelman of Mechanicsburg. Police said they found Trump in bed with Edelman's body early this morning at his 15th Street apartment.
Police said they believe Trump killed Edelman in her car early Tuesday morning and took her body inside his apartment.
Police said they received a call from Edelman's mother Tuesday because she was concerned that she had not heard from her daughter. Police said Trisha Edelman had a court appearance set for Thursday in reference to charges pending against Trump for an incident over the summer. In that incident, police said Trump pointed a gun at Edelman's head and threatening to shoot her.
Police said Edelman did have a protection from abuse order against Trump. According to court documents, Edelman had been living with a new boyfriend in Mechanicsburg.
Police said they located Edelman's car outside of Trump's apartment complex. They said they also tracked Edelman's phone to the area around the apartment.
At around 3 a.m. Wednesday, police said they went inside the apartment with the help of a landlord and found the victim dead. They said they also found a gun near her body.
Cumberland County Coroner Todd Eckenrode said Edelman had been shot in the navel area. According to court documents, Edelman was 18 weeks pregnant.
Police said Trump told them he was in possession of the gun went it went off, striking Edelman.
The homicide is the second in Cumberland County in the past few weeks. In late December, Silver Spring Township police arrested 27-year-old Gary Cartwright for the strangling death of his fiancee, 27-year-old attorney Nicole Berman.
