A group of more than 100 local veterans enjoyed a send-off breakfast at Mechanicsburg Middle School before boarding the "honor bus" that will take them to see the WWII monument in Washington D.C.
All of the veterans say they are very grateful for this opportunity, but it is the middle school students who are calling the trip "a day of gratitude." The students said this is their way of thanking the vets for their service to our country.
Thanks to the students' fundraising efforts, the veterans can enjoy the day for free. Many of these veterans have never had the opportunity to see the WWII memorial.
When they return here to the midstate, the students and veterans will enjoy a celebration dinner at the Dillsburg American Legion.
