North 7th Street bypass in Harrisburg to close for 18 months

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The replacement of the 40-year-old electrical substation that powers the state Capitol Complex will require closing the North 7th Street bypass for 18 months.

Department of General Services Secretary Sheri Phillips cited safety concerns at the high-voltage electrical worksite, as well as logistical challenges, as the reason for closing the bypass on Monday, June 13.

The bypass is only several hundred yards long, but is fairly heavily traveled. While it is closed, all through-traffic turning right from 5th to Walnut Street will be redirected east across the State Street Bridge.

Signs informing motorists of the upcoming closure are already in place.

Metered parking in front of the Forum Place Building will still be available.
