YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

A York woman who pleaded no contest to charges she endangered her five children has learned her penalty.

Louann Bowers, 34, was sentenced Wednesday to 11-and-a-half to 23 months in prison, followed by 23 months of probation.

Police arrested Bowers and Sinhue Johnson at an East York area motel in September after authorities said they found no evidence of birth certificates, schooling, or doctor visits for the children aged 2-13.

A home in the 700 block of South Duke Street where the family had lived was found to have no running water, electricity, or a working toilet, according to court documents in the case.

The children were later found to have health and vision issues, and none were at their expected education levels. They have since been placed into foster homes.

Johnson is awaiting his trial on the same charges.
