My apologies again for the long layoff, but we are undergoing some changes here in the weather center that have been taking my time. I am hoping to start writing again on a more regular basis come this fall. In the meantime, how about this awesome weather?
My question is could this weather be a sign of things to come? Is this a pattern change and has autumn arrived early? My gut says no. There are always hot days in late August and there are always a few days that approach 90 in early September. I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of the heat yet...but prolonged heat for days on end may be a thing of the past, at least for this year.
The Climate Prediction Center backs my gut on this with some long-term forecasts. Everything is pointing to more warm temperatures ahead...but it may be a little while yet.
On this 8-14 day temperature outlook, it appears Pennsylvania will return to above normal temperatures before the month is out. While the next week and a half looks below normal, there could still be some summer left. This is good news for many, but just seeing cooler temperatures at this point is a good sign -- the ugly, gross, stinky summer heat is going to soon give way to the cool, crisp, wonderful days of fall. I love autumn...my favorite season!
Next up is the three-month temperature outlook which was released in July for August, September, and October. Pennsylvania is still in the "above normal" contour indicating there could be some warm days for the fall season too. We shall see. These long-term predictions are just that...predictions. They are based on sound science, but forecasting three-month out also is quite challenging. We'll find out soon enough. In the meantime, one thing is certain. The fall is coming and temperatures will eventually settle in to a more comfortable seasonable mode soon. Today and tomorrow are a nice preview. Enjoy them! I'll write more soon I hope...remember to keep checking back when you have time!
