Cell phones and other handheld electronic devices would be banned in Pennsylvania's active construction zones if a state lawmaker has his way.
Rep. Peter Daley II (D-Fayette/Washington) said he plans to introduce legislation that would outlaw talking and texting where road crews are at work.
Daley said his bill would add a new layer of safety for highway workers.
He said the dangers of distracted driving are greater in construction zones, where often lanes are narrowed and people are working nearby.
He hopes to have the legislation passed by the start of the 2012 construction season.
