Jorge Segarra of Lower Paxton Township "unplugs" during the week.
"No laundry today," Segarra said.
On Thursday, his washer, dryer, and many of his other major appliances were not in use. Segarra likes to wait until the weekend. That's because his electricity is free on Saturdays.
"It was costing a lot and when she said free Saturdays I jumped on that," Segarra said. "We can do all our laundry, pile up all our gadgets on a Saturday."
Electric provider Direct Energy is offering a new plan that includes free power on Saturdays for one year and a $50 dollar VISA gift card. It is offered for old and new residential customers.
"We've ensured that the entire Saturday we're not charging a dime for electricity, so any demand that they have for electricity on Saturdays is free from us," Cory Byzewski, Vice President and General Manager for Direct Energy said.
You would still have to pay some PPL charges and probably a price increase during the week. Reps with Direct Energy say the "free Saturday plan" would cost you almost $0.10 per kilowatt-hour during the week.
The average PPL Energy Plus customer pays a little over $0.08.
So is it too good to be true? It depends.
"What you have to do is take a look at the numbers and try figure out if I am better off getting it free on Saturdays and paying a little bit more the rest of the week and vice versa," Pennsylvania Consumer Advocate Sonny Popowsky said.
Segarra said he'll know for sure if the plan works for him when he gets his first bill.
"This is going on the first month, so we'll see on the bill when it comes in," Segarra said.
