Harrisburg City Council will have a fresh face next year in Democrat Sandra Reid. Meanwhile, the two incumbents easily won re-election Tuesday night.
Both Brad Koplinski and Susan Brown-Wilson opposed recovery plans submitted by the state and by the mayor. Reid has indicated that she feels the same way. Tuesday night's results would seem to validate their positions.
"There's been statements by certain folks about our competency for office and things like that," said Koplinski. "I've always said that's for the City of Harrisburg to decide and they've shown what they had to say today. I'm grateful to the people of Harrisburg, of course."
"The results tell us that they're obviously going in the right direction," said Reid, who works in banking. "When you talk about a fiscal recovery plan that's only going to benefit Wall Street and not Market Street, then that sends a clear and definite message that it's time for the one percent to come up with their due share."
Democratic supporters of the candidates said there will now be five members on city council who appear to have similar voting philosophies, which would give them enough votes to override a mayoral veto.
