HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Harrisburg City Council vice president Patty Kim declared her candidacy for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Saturday afternoon.

Kim, a Democrat, said she hopes to represent the 103rd District, a seat that is currently held by fellow Democrat Ron Buxton.

Kim said her seat on City Council and her experience as a child of immigrants has prepared her for the job.

"Fifty years ago, my parents immigrated to the U.S. to leave behind the scars of the Korean War," she said. "Now, to be standing here as the vice president of City Council and a candidate for the PA Legislature is an honor for me beyond words."

The 103rd District includes Steelton, Highspire, Oberlin, Enhaut and Bressler.
