Low-flying planes alarm people around HIA

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM) -

An unusual sight in the sky Monday night alarmed some people around Harrisburg International Airport.

Many people reported seeing low-flying planes across the area.

One man who took video of the event said he was shocked to see a large 747 pass back and forth over his Lawnton home several times in one hour.

After making some calls, abc27 was able to confirm that the 747 was the President's plane. Pilots were practicing 'touch-and-go's' at HIA.

President Obama will be in Scranton on Wednesday to tout his jobs bill, and that may be the reason for the practice runs.

"From the view we had from our backyard, it was coming from the Middletown area at us," said Jim Di Santo, who saw the plane above his home. "If you told us that it was getting ready to land in the field behind our house, I would have believed you."

HIA officials said they were not warned about the exercises. They said if they had been warned, they would have put the word out to residents.
