It was last night when neighboring store owners heard gun shots coming from the parking lot of the Palmyra 'head shop', Bad Boys Toys.
Police say a store employee fired the shots. They believe the incident began after the worker saw a woman enter the store and leave with $1600 dollars worth of unpaid merchandise.
According to investigators, the employee then followed the woman out and into the parking lot, where witnesses say a male friend of the female assaulted the employee.
The two suspects are now in custody, the male receiving treatment for gun shot wounds suffered during the altercation.
"If an individual comes at you with your fists you can't just come out and shoot them," said Stephan Zawisky, an attorney in Carlisle, who is not associated with the case but was able to fill abc27 in on the legal side of our 2nd Amendment right.
He says when a weapon like a gun is used to protect the home or even workplace there is one phrase that must be kept in mind; "Deadly Force."
"You are going to have to believe that someone is going to either kill you, rape you, or cause serious bodily injury," said Zawisky, "and serious bodily injury is an extreme standard to prove."
Self defense is often assumed if a suspect presents a weapon. The same goes if an intruder enters into a home.
