HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Tarina Price, an eighth grade teacher in the Harrisburg School District, died Thursday after police said she was shot in the head and apparently also stabbed at her home Wednesday night.

Price's estranged husband, 40-year-old Donnell Price, of the 2300 block of Logan Street, was charged before her death with counts including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of children, police said.

Officers were called to Tarina Price's home in the 1600 block of Sycamore Street at around 12:45 a.m.

"It occurred inside and outside the house," Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico said. "There were two young children at the residence at the time and they are being cared for by family."

Marsico said the children were asleep at the time of the incident and didn't see anything.

Price taught language arts at Rowland School, according to the district's website.

Dwayne Gilchrist, a co-worker, told abc27 News that she always put her students first.

"She was a wonderful teacher," Gilchrist said. "Everybody loved her. She was always happy and caring about the kids."

Gilchrist said he has had several conversations with the Prices over the years. He said he never imagined anything like this would happen.

"They were a happy couple, but she is a wonderful person and this is a tragedy happening to her," he said. "Things like this should never happen, especially around the holidays."
