Christmas Is Here!

Posted: Updated:

As I write this, the phones are already getting quiet, folks have left the office until after Christmas, and even the roads were less congested this morning coming to work!  Things are winding down for the Holidays.  All of the hustle and bustle are turning into a calm, large and collective exhale.  Now, I still have shopping to do and it looks like it will be Saturday but I'm not sweating it!  It WILL get done!  I WILL make the deadline and another Christmas will go off without a hitch!  Oh, the pressure!  Well, when it's all over, and your last gift is wrapped and the last cookie has been baked, here are some ideas of how to spend some quality time with family and close friends on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day:

-Perform a random act of kindness, together as a family.  Volunteer at a shelter.  Go visit a nursing home just because.

-Sit around the fire or livingroom and read Christmas stories or share family stories from Christmases past.

-Go carolling (why not??)  Even if you can't sing well, who cares?  You're spreading joy not auditioning for a TV show!

-Play board games, card games, Jenga (love that one), or hide & seek with a Christmas gift.  Whoever finds it, gets to keep it!

-Bake cookies or make hot chocolate and use a Candy Cane for dipping!  Yum!

-Dig out old pictures either from Christmases past or general ones, (everyone has a box or two of loose photos), and make a collage.  Hey if it comes out decent, you can frame it and put it on your wall somewhere in your home!

-Take a drive or even a walk (good exercise) around your neighborhood and look at Christmas lights!

-Watch movies.  If you haven't watched "It's a Wonderful Life" yet, this is the weekend to do it!

-Attend Midnight Mass.  Even if you're not religious or of a certain religious persuasion, it is still a very moving experience.  Worth staying up for!!!  Might want to take a cat nap beforehand though.  I highly recommend St. Patrick's Cathedral, downtown Harrisburg.  Magical!

Wishing all of you a safe and happy holiday season!!!  This will be my last post until the first week of January.  See you next year!!!.........
