Penbrook man charged with child pornography after repairing computer

PENBROOK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Charged with possession and distribution of child pornography, 26-year-old Andrew Sviben is behind bars. Officials said he may have helped launch the investigation against himself.

Lt. Steve Mowery with Penbrook police said Sviben took his computer to a repair shop because it wasn't working. Then the technician called his office after he found several pornographic pictures and videos on Sviben's hard drive.

Police obtained a search warrant and the computer was then sent to the Attorney General's Office. A forensic analysis found that pornographic images had been sent to other people.

Mowery said their investigation uncovered more disturbing information about Sviben's former roommate.

"It came to our attention later on a gentleman who was living at the house was on Megan's List," he said.

But Mowery said the pornographic images belong to Sviben. He now faces 76 counts of possession and three counts of distribution.

Jennifer Storm is the executive director of the Victim Witness Assistance Program in Dauphin County. She said the computer company did the right thing.

"I think in this day and age the conversation about accountability and who is responsible has opened the door for people to take moral responsibility...and I applaud them for doing that," she said.

Dauphin County Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Gettle said it's important to remember the victims.

"What you have to keep in mind is in order for those pictures to be made a child was molested and abused," she said.
