YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police said they arrested a York County man after he tried to steal a timing device in front of officers who were watching for speeders.

Northern York County Regional police said two of their officers were in marked patrol cars on N. George Street Wednesday when 51-year-old Daniel Ramsey, of Conewago Township, pulled next to the ENRADD device, picked it up, and started walking to his truck with it.

As the officers approached Ramsey, they said he quickly tried to put the device into his truck bed, but finally put the device down and tried to leave.

Ramsey told the officers he thought the device was trash, even though it had a glowing red light on it and was attached to a battery, police said.

He was charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

Police said this is the second time that someone has tried to steal the device. A 50-year-old York man was arrested last March after he also put the device and battery in his truck bed.
