State Supreme Court explains legislative redistricting rejection

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The state Supreme Court rejected the legislative re-districting plan last week, and as part of its opinion, it specifically criticized the 15th Senatorial District that surrounds Harrisburg as being 'problematic.'

But the high court did not suggest specific fixes. Instead, it ordered the legislative reapportionment commission to go back to the drawing board and do a better of job of not splitting counties and communities.

The problem is that there's a primary election in April and the boundaries are now in limbo. Senator Mike Folmer of Lebanon was supposed to pick up Harrisburg, but now he's not so sure.

"Thank goodness I'm not running for re-election this time around, and I kind of pity the candidates that are because they are definitely in limbo," he said.

This is the first time ever the Supreme Court has rejected a redistricting plan.
