HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Convicted state Rep. Bill DeWeese says he'll step down when he is sentenced for corruption but he's hoping to delay the proceeding so he can run for re-election.

DeWeese told The Associated Press on Wednesday he will resign upon sentencing, now scheduled for April 24 - primary election day.

The long-time House Democratic leader says he will seek to have his sentencing postponed until after the November general election so he can remain in the Legislature while he campaigns for re-election.

The Greene County lawmaker said previously he intended to retain his seat.

The 35-year House veteran, was convicted Monday of 3 counts of theft and one count each of conspiracy and conflict of interest. He was acquitted on one theft count.
