Police want public's help in fatal hit-and-run case

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

State police are asking for the public's help in finding the hit-and-run driver involved in a deadly motorcycle accident in Franklin County Wednesday night.

Police said the driver of a box truck crossing Route 11 near the intersection of Overcash Road in Guilford Township collided with a motorcycle at around 7 p.m. and, according to witnesses, fled the scene.

The motorcycle driver, 37 year-old Keith Monninger of Greencastle, died at the scene.

"Someone failed to stop and render aid and in this day and age that is just unmentionable for someone to do that," Trooper Ed Asbury said.

Thursday morning, with daylight on their side, investigators got to work, canvassing the area of Jack Road and Route 995, looking for anything that could point them in the direction of the truck.

"At this point, every little bit helps," Asbury said.

The search was also taken to the air, as a state police helicopter searched surrounding areas for the truck. Troopers said the search will not end until justice is found.

"In the end, when someone is deceased, you want to go the extra mile for the person, the victim, especially when someone loses a life," Asbury said. "In a hit-and-run accident, it just intensifies it even more."
