Missing kayaker's body found in Susquehanna River

HOLTWOOD, Pa. (WHTM) -

Dispatchers in Lancaster County said crews found a body in the Susquehanna River near the Muddy Creek boat access Sunday morning believed to be that of a kayaker who went missing nearly two months ago.

Investigators said Nicholas Herr, 24, vanished in January when he and a friend were kayaking on the river in York and Lancaster counties.

The Fish and Boat Commission and Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company were called to the York County side of the river, about two miles south of Holtwood, at around 7:30 a.m.

Family and friends told abc27 they finally have closure.

"As a parent myself of a son the same age, I couldn't imagine not knowing," family friend Wendy Petrondi said. "So for (his father) to be able to put his son to rest and move on, is the best thing for his family and friends."
