NEWBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
It was definitely a case of something good happening to good people because of good people: workers from the Home Depot in Carlisle on Wednesday built a new deck for Harry and Ruth Rebok.
They also put some new steps on the couple's Newburg home and they plan to install a wheelchair-accessible ramp for Harry, a veteran. Home Depot did it all for free with materials the store donated.
"One of the core values is giving back to the community," store manager Marc Cochran said. "This is just something real simple that we can do to kind of help out and show that we care."
The driving force behind the effort was the Warrior Brotherhood Veterans Motorcycle Club. They saw a story that abc27 aired back in January on the Rebok's needs.
The club then got Home Depot on board. They got the Reboks some legal help for some separate issues, and they also delivered a new mattress, which was donated by Steve and Christine Clark of Penbrook.
"It's all about just giving back to the vets that are in need," said the Pennsylvania President of the Warrior Brotherhood, Beef Bennett. "It's not about money. It's about the time. Even just to stop by and say 'Hi' or something like that."
The Reboks were very appreciative, perhaps just as much for the company of all the helpers as they were for the new accessories to their home.
Harry was having trouble getting around after hurting his leg over the weekend, but as usual he was still smiling.
"I always have that," Harry said.
