The Volvo Construction Company broke ground Friday morning on a $100 million investment project that's bringing the company's American headquarters to Shippensburg.
Officials from Volvo say the expansion will bring 200 jobs to the region immediately, and several hundred more in years to follow.
With the expansion, the company will be producing 16 new pieces of equipment. Local officials say they are very pleased with how much Volvo is including the local work-force in its plans.
"They want to be part of our community. They want to have local people working here. They want to have local people doing the construction, and that's what you really need to get the economy to how you want," state Rep. Rob Kauffman said.
The expansion will happen in three phases. The first is expected to start next week with the construction of the new building.
