WEST YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

A West York woman left her young children home alone while she attempted to break into a house to steal prescription medications, according to police.

Amber N. Newcomer, 29, of 1202 West King Street, is facing felony charges of attempted burglary and criminal trespass.

West York police said Newcomer and another woman were taken into custody May 10 by officers who responded to the burglary attempt a block from her home, in the 1100 block of West King, after the resident reported someone was trying to get in through a window.

According to police, Newcomer was wearing an ankle bracelet monitoring device and was currently on probation for prior drug crimes.

She was sent to York County Prison on $15,000 cash bail. Children Youth and Families took her children into protective custody, police said.

Charges against the other woman are pending. Her name was not released.
