SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A man was flown to the hospital after crashing his motorcycle on Interstate 81 Monday evening, causing crews to shut down the highway for nearly an hour.

It happened at around 9:30 p.m. near mile-marker 27. According to state police, the man crossed into the median while traveling southbound -- his bike then went airborne and he was thrown off.

Rescue crews shut down I-81 at exit 29 (King Street) so they could land Life Lion on the road.

The man was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. His name has not been released.

The road re-opened just before 10:30 p.m.
