CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Dickinson Township teenager died after he was struck by a car after getting off his school bus Monday afternoon.

Dakota Ryman, 15, was struck in the 800 block of Pine Road and died at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries, according to acting Cumberland County Coroner Matt Stoner.

Stoner said Ryman was dropped off by his school bus at around 3:15 p.m. and crossed the road to the mailbox in front of his home. While returning back across Pine Road from the mailbox, Ryman was struck by the car.

Witnesses reported that Ryman stepped into the path of the car, Stoner said. The driver stopped immediately, and was not injured.

District Attorney Dave Freed said Ryman was the last student to get off the bus. He said the bus driver had turned around and witnessed a small, 2-seat Smart car strike the teen.

The female driver was being questioned by police, but Freed said it was too early to say whether charges will be filed.

The bus driver reported that Ryman had waited for an oncoming car to pass before going back across the road, according to state police, who added that it is possible the teen never heard the quiet Smart car.

Pine Road was closed between Burnt House and Huntsdale roads for the investigation.
