Eric Smith
LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -
A 44-year-old man has been jailed for a stabbing and robbery over several bottles of beer, according to Lancaster police.
Eric Smith, formerly of Maryland, was sent to Lancaster County Prison on charges including robbery, criminal conspiracy, and aggravated assault. His bail was set at $500,000.
Police said Smith and at least one other person approached three men in the first block of
W. James Street and tried to steal their beer Monday night.
A 26-year-old man was stabbed in the
body and sent to a hospital for treatment of injuries described as serious, but not life-threatening. A 20-year-old man was hit in the head
with a handgun, but did not require medical treatment, police said.
Investigators said they used city surveillance cameras to find Smith, who was identified by witnesses as the stabbing suspect, and another man who has not yet been charged.
Smith dropped a BB gun that resembled a semi-automatic firearm when approached by officers, and was found to have a knife and a small amount of marijuana, police said.
Authorities said they believe a third person, who was not located, may have been
involved in the incident.
