CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -
Cumberland County District Attorney Dave Freed and Carlisle Police
Chief Stephen Margeson announced a major synthetic drug bust Tuesday
morning.
The Cumberland County Drug Task Force executed two
search warrants in Carlisle on Friday; one at the NS Deli on Willow
Street and the other at Deli Creations on Louther Street.
Between
the two delis, authorities said more than 20,000 doses of synthetic marijuana and baths
salts, worth about $500,000, were seized by police.
"This is not
innocent stuff," Freed said. "The bath salts are not something you are
using to soak your feet, and it's not incense you're burning to make
your bedroom smell good."
Freed called the substances dangerous
and unpredictable. He said authorities in Cumberland County have taken a
stand against synthetic drugs since they were banned by state law last year.
The bust came after a several month long investigation and a joint cooperation of police forces.
"This is what we need to do to get this stuff off of the streets," Freed said.
Following
the press conference, abc27 went to both delis for comment, but the owner
of NS Deli and a clerk at Deli Creations refused to comment.
While inside, however, abc27 News saw the same product that had been displayed at the law enforcement news conference and reported the finding to Margeson. He said his officers would be following up.
