STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WHTM) -
State Farm Insurance has pulled its sponsorship of Penn State football in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
"We have been reviewing this for some time and we felt that this was the proper decision," said State Farm Spokesman Dave Phillips.
Phillips said State Farm is only pulling sponsorship of home football games and will review the decision at a later time. State Farm banners inside Beaver Stadium will also be pulled. In the meantime, State Farm will continue to sponsor all other PSU sports teams associated with NCAA.
Tuesday's decision comes the day after the NCAA levied harsh sanctions against Penn State football. Among other things, the NCAA has banned the team from postseason play for four years.
