HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
Auditor General Jack Wagner is calling for changes to the president's role at Penn State University in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
Wagner said Thursday that the Penn State president should no longer be a voting member of the university's board of trustees and should also be prevented from serving as the board's secretary.
In a letter sent to leaders of the state Legislature, Wagner said a conflict of interest exists when the university's top administrator is also a trustee who is supposed to oversee the university's administration.
Wagner said he is working on a report that will make a series of reform recommendations to ensure board operations are more transparent and open to the public.
He said the Legislature should also make Pennsylvania's governor a non-voting board member to
alleviate concerns about conflicts of interest.
State lawmakers would have to approve any such changes.
Wagner said he expected to complete his report within 60 days.
