Manly Minute: How to keep fit

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Whether or not you realize it, a lot of news stories and features are dedicated to women. With that in mind, we've decided to start a feature for men, although you ladies can watch also.

It premiered Thursday night and is called the Manly Minute. Al Gnoza would love to get you ladies involved, too. If you have something you think men should learn or stories you would like to see, e-mail Al or go on our Facebook page.

Sounds like your pants shrunk, either that or your butt got bigger. Whatever the case, what you have to ask yourself is have you been as active as you should be?

Riding around doesn't count as exercise. Let's make a commitment to exercise, at least somewhat.

Personal trainer Nichole Baker can help whip you into shape. We caught up with her as she punished a group of ladies who set aside a certain time to get together. Baker says many folks don't take the time and it's the excuse she hears most.

"Not enough time: the number one reason people give for not exercising," Baker said. "I work 13-14 hours a day. I get up, do my workouts in the morning."

Okay, so you can't get to the gym. Your wife won't let you have someone come to the house that looks like Nicole and you work 200 hours a week. She says you can do it on your own.

"Anything can be modified as simple as a jumping jack. Instead of doing a jumping jack, you just do legs. Squats you could do one leg to the side," Baker said.

Here are some things you can do at work, and while you are on the clock, so no excuses about time; if you can get up to use the bathroom, you can exercise:

- Take the stairs, even when you don't have to;

- Exercise your triceps with a simple door push. Yeah, you look stupid doing it; just make sure no one's looking. If you it's easy, try it and see how sore your triceps are the next day;

- You can even do deep knee bends by the couch. Yeah, you look stupid doing this, too.
