WILLOW STREET, Pa. (WHTM) -
A missing 3-year-old in Lancaster County was found sleeping in a cornfield around 8:20 this morning. The child, identified as Rebekah King, was unharmed.
Rescue workers, volunteers and family had been looking for the girl for nearly 12 hours when an Amish man on a horse and two boys found the girl. Minutes later, a rescue worker looked at the abc27 News reporter on the scene and gave him a thumbs up and big smile.
The King is now safely at home with her family, who refused medical treatment saying she was doing fine.
Around 8 p.m. last night, the toddler was seen picking apples with her siblings at their home along the 1000 block of Byerland Church Road. Her family notified police about her disappearance around 1:00 a.m. Friday, according to officials.
About 100 people searched the area surrounding King's home. The area is very rural and is surrounded by thick cornfields. Rescue crews had been concerned King was lost in a cornfield or scared of rescuers who were searching for her.
About 50 Amish volunteers were brought in to assist in the search because the girl might find them more familiar. Searchers are also rang the school bell hoping that she would hear the familiar sound.
The search included two helicopters, a bloodhound, police, and firefighters as well as numerous volunteers from the community.
We're told heavy rain in the area hampered their search efforts.
