WILLOW STREET, Pa. (WHTM) -
A missing 3-year-old in Pequea Township, Lancaster County was found sleeping in a cornfield. The child was unharmed. She had been missing for 12 hours.
The little girl is now in the care of her family, who refused medical treatment saying the girl was "fine."
Around 8:20 a.m., rescue workers rushed out of the cornfield with smiles, flashing a thumbs-up sign to members of the media who had gathered at the site.
The toddler had last been seen picking apples with her siblings at her home along the 1000 block of Byerland Church Road around 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
Her family notified police about her disappearance around 1:00 a.m. Friday, according to officials.
About 100 people searched the area surrounding her home. The area is very rural and is surrounded by tall, thick cornfields.
About 50 Amish volunteers were brought in to assist in the search because rescue workers thought the little girl might find them more familiar and be more willing to come to them. Searchers also rang the school bell hoping that she would hear the familiar sound.
The search included two helicopters, a bloodhound, police, and firefighters as well as numerous volunteers from the community.
