HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
A man accused of carjacking drivers on Route 322 near Dauphin and on the Pennsylvania Turnpike is awaiting a court hearing in another bizarre incident at a Chester County hotel.
According to court documents, 28-year-old Matthew Malory set off a fire extinguisher in a hallway of the Wyndham Gardens Hotel in Exton on July 9 after he banged on several doors and threatened numerous guests. The incident caused the evacuation of several rooms.
Malory later told police he had been injected with an oxycodone solution that had been given to him by a man named "Steve," the documents state.
He was charged with eight counts of reckless endangerment, risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Malory was free on bail pending his preliminary hearing when he crashed his pickup truck into two other drivers, tried to steal a tractor-trailer, and then jumped into the window of a passing pickup on Route 322 westbound on Thursday, according to state police.
He stole the pickup after pushing out the victim at the Newport exit, and was later found on the Pennsylvania Turnpike where he led police on a high-speed chase, crashed the stolen pickup, and stole a tractor-trailer, police said.
Police said they ended the pursuit after firing several shots into the tractor-trailer in Chester County, but not before Malory used the stolen semi to push several other drivers out of his way.
The Turnpike was closed for about six hours because of the incident.
