'Superload' closes Route 11/15 in Duncannon

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Route 11/15 is closed to through-traffic at the interchange with Route 274 in Duncannon while crews move a 310-ton transformer to PPL's Juniata Substation near New Bloomfield.

The closure began at daybreak and will continue through the early evening hours.

PennDOT spokesman Greg Penny said traffic on Route 11/15 is detoured around the closure by way of the off-ramps and on-ramps with Route 274.

Drivers should consider alternate routes to avoid delays.

The generator will be moved from a rail spur located east of the highway, then across the highway and concrete median barrier, and over to the west side of the highway.

On Tuesday, the transformer will be moved from Duncannon by way of Route 274 and Route 34 to the Juniata Substation.

Penny said the slow-moving operation will start at around 9 a.m. and will take approximately 8 to 10 hours to complete.

Drivers are urged to avoid Route 274 and Route 34 on Tuesday in order to avoid travel delays.

The so-called "superload" should reach its destination in the early evening.
