A northern Dauphin County man suspected of stealing from vehicles was stopped by one of his alleged victims and held until troopers arrived to arrest him, according to police.
State Police in Lykens said they charged 28-year-old John Beckey Jr., of Williamstown, with receiving stolen property, theft from a motor vehicle, conspiracy, harassment, and loitering and prowling at night after he was taken into custody on Elizabeth Street early Tuesday.
Police said Beckey was confronted by a 47-year-old man who had property stolen from his vehicles. He attempted to assault the victim and was struck on the head and held until troopers arrived, police said.
Beckey also faces drug charges for a small amount of marijuana in his possession and a firearms charge for a handgun in a bag he was carrying, police said.
He was being held in Dauphin County Prison on $100,000 cash bail.
Police said they recovered several items stolen from unknown locations, and are looking for a second man who fled on a bicycle.
Anyone who had property stolen or who has information on the second suspect is asked to call 362-8700.
