FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. (WHTM) -
A fire that heavily damaged a barracks at Fort Indiantown Gap was caused by a lightning strike, according to investigators.
Officials said the fire early Wednesday started at the electrical panel in the building's mechanical room.
Fire officials have determined that the building will have to be demolished because it cannot be repaired.
Two firefighters from the Jonestown Volunteer Fire Department were treated and released from Penn State Hershey Medical Center for injuries they sustained while fighting the fire. One suffered a burn and the other suffered a shoulder injury, according to officials.
Fort Indiantown Gap fire department and 12 local fire departments from Lebanon and Dauphin counties responded to the fire in building 5-7, a remodeled World War II-style barracks.
The building was unoccupied when the fire began around 2:30 a.m.
The fire was contained within two hours.
