Silver Spring Township man gets 17-40 years for killing fiancee

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Silver Spring Township man has been sentenced to 17 to 40 years in prison for murdering his fiancee.

Gary Alan Cartwright, 28, formally received the sentence Monday in Cumberland County court.

Cartwright earlier this month pleaded guilty to third-degree murder for killing 27-year-old Nicole Berman the night of December 28, 2010.

Police have said Cartwright told them he was arguing with Berman and that he panicked and strangled her in the couple's townhouse.

Berman was an attorney who practiced in Franklin County.
