YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

York County Crime Stoppers said it rewarded a tipster with $300 for an anonymous tip which helped police solve an eight-year-old vehicular homicide case.

Benjamin Rouco, 27, was arrested June 28 by the York City Police Department for a fatal hit and run accident that occurred November 20, 2004.

Rouco is accused in the death of 52-year-old Leroy Smith, who was struck while walking across East Princess Street, near Queen Street.

York City police were unsuccessful in identifying a suspect until a tip was provided to York County Crime Stoppers in early 2010.

"This case was cold with no leads. It would have remained unsolved without the tip to Crime Stoppers," said York City Police Lt. Steven Butler.

Rouco pleaded guilty to accidents involving death or personal injury and is currently serving his sentence in York County Prison.
