MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM) -

The 18-year-old man who died from a shooting inside a Middletown apartment building had tried to rob two people during a drug deal, police said Tuesday.

Middletown police also identified the victim as Anthony Lorenzo Ramsey Jr., of Steelton.

Ramsey and an unidentified person known only as "D" were meeting with a man and woman outside the building at 53 W. Main Street Sunday night for a pre-arranged drug deal, according to police.

He went inside the building with the pair, but then pulled a handgun and told the woman she had five seconds to empty her pockets and hand over everything she had. Moments later, the man pulled out his own gun and shot Ramsey in a stairwell, police said.

The man who shot Ramsey called 911 and tried to help him, but Ramsey died later at Penn State Hershey Medical Center from bullet wounds to his chest and arm, according to investigators.

Police have not identified the man who shot Ramsey or the woman who was with him.

According to investigators, none of the people involved in the incident live in the apartment building, nor do they have any connections to the residents.

The unidentified man known as "D" fled and was last seen running between 53 and 63 W. Main Street. Police said he is described as a dark-skinned black man in his early 20's, about 5'10" tall with a medium build, who has been seen hanging around the Colonial Park Mall.

Anyone with information about him is asked to call police at 948-3000.
