MANHEIM, Pa. (WHTM) -
A Lancaster County reptile sanctuary has found the owners of a Florida softshell turtle that had been wandering the streets of Lititz for several weeks.
The turtle was found Thursday on Plum Street and had been seen crossing Forney Drive a few weeks ago, according to Jesse Rothacker of Forgotten Friend.
Rothacker released photographs of the rubbery-shelled turtle in hopes of finding the owner, or perhaps a new home, before fall temperatures set in. He said the rescue wasn't equipped to care for the southern reptile, which would never survive a Pennsylvania winter.
He said the owners contacted him after the photos appeared in the local media news. The turtle apparently was lost while they were moving.
Rothacker said the turtle would be returned to its owners Friday morning.
