BLAIN, Pa. (WHTM) -
Fire crews remained on scene of a massive barn fire near Blain late Monday night.
It happened off Route 274 near Fowlers Hollow Road just before 2:30 p.m.
Witnesses said the barn, which is owned by Hatfield Meats, housed approximately 5,300 pigs. A majority of those animals died in the fire, according to a former employee who spoke with abc27 News.
No firefighters were seriously injured in the blaze, which originated in the back of the barn.
Dispatchers said crews were having a tough time getting water to the scene and had to use several tankers to obtain it from a local pond.
The farm employed 8-9 full-time workers and has been deemed a total loss.
A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause.
