A York County woman and her boyfriend are accused of abusing her three-year-old child.
Victoria Manning, 29, and Darren Leber, 33, were each charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
West York Borough police said the child was being treated at a hospital for a severe burn to his foot when the staff notified authorities of possible abuse.
A series of interviews with Manning, the child's mother, sparked a game of he-said, she-said.
According to court documents, Manning admitted to hitting the boy "harder than she should have," but told police that Leber, of Dover, caused the most harm.
She claimed Leber would hold her son's head underwater, leaving the child to struggle for air, and that he frequently hit and bruised the toddler and force-fed him to the point of throwing up, documents state.
Manning and Leber both claimed to have no knowledge of how the child was burned, documents state.
Police pointed out that Leber was given a polygraph test and failed.
Along with child endangerment, he was charged with simple assault and sent to York County Prison on $2,500 cash bail.
