Steelworkers show unity as contract deadline nears

Posted: Updated:
STEELTON, Pa. (WHTM) -

ArcelorMittal employees marched down Front Street in Steelton Wednesday to show they are united while contract talks continue between their union and the company.

The current contract expires Sunday at midnight.

Union workers said they're concerned about the company's plan to hire new employees at lower salaries and with no pension benefits.

Company officials have said negotiations are moving forward, but union leaders have called recent proposals incomplete.

Union officials said they have no plans to strike if no deal is reached by the deadline.

More than 500 union workers are employed at the Steelton plant.
