FORT LOUDON, Pa. (WHTM) -
State police have filed charges against a Franklin County couple because their young child was found alone in the middle of Route 30.
The boy, who will turn two years old this month, was found last month at the intersection Route 75 around 9 o'clock in the evening.
The toddler's parents, Timothy Gladhill and Chelsee Rosenberry, each face a count of endangering the welfare of a child.
As a part of the investigation, state troopers said they found dog feces inside the home and no baby food.
Gladhill said he is a responsible parent, and the house was a mess due to renovations. He told abc27 the incident with his son happened very quickly - before he or the child's mother realized he had gone missing.
According to Gladhill, he was at a neighbors and Rosenberry was inside with the child doing housework. Somehow, the boy got out of the front door.
Gladhill said the latch had been broken, but they have since fixed it. He thinks his son was trying to walk to his grandmother's home next door, but was distracted by the highway traffic.
Luckily, a driver spotted him and safely got him out of the road.
Gladhill said he got emotional when he found out what had happened.
"I looked at the blond hair, and I instantly cried," he said.
He said the incident was an accident and that he and the child's mother love their son and are responsible. He said they have learned from what happened.
"Never leave your boy unattended or at least make sure someone is watching him when you leave," he said.
Gladhill and Rosenberry are due in Franklin County Court Tuesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing.
