MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A seven-year-old Cumberland County girl severely injured in a dog attack was to undergo another major surgery Tuesday, nearly a week after the incident in Hampden Township, according to family members.

The girl was walking through her neighborhood on Mendenhall Drive with her grandfather August 28 when two American bulldogs escaped from their yard, ran up to the child and knocked her to the ground, police have said.

At least one of the dogs bit her, causing a severe injury to her left leg.

Officers seized the dogs and took them to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, where they were quarantined for 10 days.

Police have said the dog owners are cooperating with the investigation. They could face summary charges for allowing their dogs to run loose without a leash and a fine of up to $600.
