HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
An 18-year-old man jailed for the assault of a Harrisburg police officer has been released on unsecured bond because his DNA didn't match a piece of evidence in the case.
Tahir Gardner is believed to be the man who rammed a police car during a traffic stop in late January. An officer who then reached into the driver side window suffered cuts and
bruises as he was dragged by the fleeing driver.
Gardner was arrested a short time later as he was walking near the abandoned
car. He later agreed to take a DNA test to see if it would match up
to a knit hat that police obtained during the traffic stop.
The
results did not match Gardner's DNA and he was released on Tuesday.
Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico said the case remains under investigation.
"There were other factors that led to his arrest and we will review the case from top to bottom and see where we stand," Marsico said.
Marsico had no timetable for when the investigation would be complete.
