HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
An 18-year-old man was fatally wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in the area of 16th and Park streets, according to Harrisburg police.
Valdez Cockren died at a hospital shortly after 5 p.m., not long after he was rushed away from the shooting scene with a severe gunshot wound to the chest, police said.
According to police, two patrol officers were in the area of the 1600
block of Market Street when they heard several gunshots just after 4 p.m.
Cockren was found in a grassy area and a young black male was seen running away from him, police said. One officer administered CPR to Cockren while the other officer gave chase, but the fleeing man got away.
A person of interest was interviewed and released pending the ongoing investigation. Police were seeking another person of interest they identified as 19-year-old Cody Thomas.
